What is a gel seal HEPA filter? 

A gel seal HEPA filter is one type of mini pleat HEPA filter. It adds a recess to the side or top of the filter’s outer frame, which is filled with gel sealant to form a reinforced seal. And gel seal HEPA filter uses ultra-fine glass fiber as the filter media.

Gel seal HEPA filter usually has different thicknesses, such as 70mm, 90mm, 110mm, 120mm, 140mm, etc. At the same time, the position of the gel seal is also divided into a top gel seal and a bottom gel seal (side gel seal ).

 The gel sealant is blue and resembles jelly, also called jelly gel. The gel seal sealant is a non-Newtonian liquid with non-volatile, non-creeping oil characteristics, non-toxic and tasteless, etc. It has good stability at room temperature.

The gel sealant is made of unique silicone(you can choose nonsilicone, different cost). Rubber is an elastic gel after curing, and it plays a sealing role in the gel seal HEPA air filter. It can form an airtight and airtight seal in the aluminum tank. 

The gel sealant has elasticity, good resilience, good flexibility, etc., so it can achieve good sealing performance; it can absorb the strain generated by thermal expansion and contraction with no cracks to prevent air leakage.

Another point is that gel sealant can maintain the soft elasticity of the gel for a long time, and the surface does not appear to harden, cracking and other phenomena.

When the knife edge comes into contact with the gel, the gel will fit closely with the knife edge and play a sealing role. The surface of the gel will not be hardened and cracked after a long period of use and will continue to maintain a good sealing effect.

The gel seal HEPA filter has an extra seal edge in the frame and a different filtering area than the ordinary mini pleat HEPA filter. The gel seal HEPA filter of the same size has a smaller filtering area than the mini pleat HEPA filter, and there is a gel seal edge around the gel seal HEPA filter, so the installation and sealing are different.  

The sealing method of gel seal HEPA filter is different. 

The air inlet or outlet of the mini pleat HEPA filter is sealed with a sealing gasket, and the gel seal HEPA filter is filled with gel sealant at the filter’s edge, which has a better sealing effect.

 Price and cost are different.

Since the gel seal filter has an extra gel seal housing and the injected gel sealant is a high-cost raw material, the cost is higher when they’re manufactured, so the price of the gel seal HEPA filter is higher than other types of HEPA filter.

Gel seal is a higher sealing level than other HEPA filters.
