What is A HEPA filter Box and Why do you need them?

The HEPA filter box is a non-powered air supply device. Its flange port cooperates with the air-conditioning air supply system and is filtered by the built-in HEPA filter (filtration efficiency is 99.97-99.997%@0.3um). It directly supplies air to the end of the clean room to ensure it meets cleanliness standards.

It is the terminal equipment in the purification air supply system. For the air to obtain an ideal static pressure before passing through the HEPA filter, the air outlet of the HEPA filter can be evenly distributed. At the same time, the HEPA filter boxes that require on-site leak detection are also equipped with a PAO sol dust inlet and upstream concentration detection port, pressure difference detection port, and diffusion plate based on customer requirements.

The HEPA filter box includes a static plenum box, a diffuser plate, a HEPA filter, and a flange. The interface with the air duct can be a top or side connection.

The HEPA filter box is an ideal terminal filtration device for 1000-level, 10,000-level, and 100,000-level purification air-conditioning systems. It can be widely used in air filtration systems in medicine, health, electronics, and chemical industries.
The HEPA filter box is used as a terminal filtration device for renovating and constructing clean rooms on all levels from 1000 to 300000. It is crucial equipment to meet the cleanliness requirements.

Classification of HEPA filter box

The structure of the HEPA filter box is relatively complex. At the same time, according to the requirements of different clean room filtration systems and the design of clean engineering, there are many classification designs of HEPA filter boxes.

  • The static pressure chamber is constructed from a high-quality cold-rolled steel plate (electrostatic powder coating) or welded stainless steel, featuring a leak-proof structural design. Special treatment is applied to all weld seams to ensure the tightness of the casing.
  • It can be directly suspended for lifting or installed on ceiling joists. It can also be connected directly to the air duct and is easy to maintain. Customization options include adjustable valves, insulation layers, and top/side air intake methods according to user requirements, such as round top connection, round side connection, square top connection, and square side connection.
  • Each of the four edges of the HEPA filter is equipped with a pair of pressure blocks. During installation, adjust the pressure blocks to be perpendicular to the filter frame and tighten them. Material options for the pressure blocks include cast aluminum with nickel plating, ABS plastic, stainless steel, and more.
  • Accessory options include:

    1. Insulation cotton (standard thickness 15mm, customizable thickness).
    2. Dust emission ring (available in straight pipe and circular ring forms, with three material options: stainless steel, aluminum, and PVC).
    3. Air volume valve (adjustable from the top or bottom).
  • Customization is available according to your requirements.

Precautions for installing HEPA filter box

  1. The first important thing before installation is that the size and efficiency requirements of the HEPA filter box must comply with the clean room on-site design requirements and customer application standards.
  2. The transportation of HEPA filter boxes must be placed strictly in accordance with the directions indicated by the manufacturer’s signs. During transport, they must be handled carefully, and violent vibrations and collisions must be avoided.
  3. Before installing the HEPA filter box, the clean room must be cleaned in all aspects. For example, dust in the air conditioning system should be cleaned and removed to meet the cleaning requirements. The mezzanine or ceiling also needs to be cleaned. The purification air conditioning system must be continuously operated for more than 12 hours and then cleaned again.
  4. Before installing the high-efficiency air supply vent, an on-site visual inspection is required, including whether the filter paper, sealant, and frame are damaged; whether the side length, diagonal and thickness dimensions meet the requirements; whether the frame has burrs and rust spots (metal frame); whether the technical performance meets the design requirements.
  5. During installation, reasonable adjustments should be made based on the resistance of each HEPA filter box. For unidirectional flow, the difference between each filter’s rated resistance and each filter’s average resistance between the same air outlet or air supply surface should be less than 5%.
  6. The joints between the flanges of the HEPA filter box and the ceiling panels are treated with sealing gaskets. Remember that cracks must be dealt with strictly. Do not install the HEPA filter box if it is damaged or the coating is damaged. The HEPA filter box and air duct must be rigidly connected, and the open end must be reinforced and sealed.
